DAVIS NAMED 2006 SENIOR OF THE YEAR.

LANCASTER -- Seventy-eight-year-old Adeline Davis has been named 2006 Senior of the Year for her work tutoring children. Davis was honored during High Desert Medical Group's Senior Expo 2006, which drew thousands of senior citizens Thursday to the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. ``This isn't just for me,'' Davis said in accepting her award. ``This is for all the volunteers who have come out to work with and help us tutor TUTOR - A Scripting language on PLATO systems from CDC.

With her husband of 55 years, Tom, Davis has organized several programs to help children learn to read and excel in other subjects in school.

``It's what I do,'' she said, ``and I'll continue to do it because I'm concerned about their self-esteem and attitude toward school and learning.''

``She encourages them, motivates them, listens to them and sometimes disciplines them, when it's necessary to stimulate them to reach their greatest potential,'' said Coleman-Price. ``She's a great influence in the lives of not only her young charges but their parents, caregivers, other tutors and everyone else she comes in contact with.''

This was the 16th annual Senior Expo sponsored by High Desert Medical Group. Celebrity guest was three-time Emmy Award-winning emcee Bob Eubanks of TV's ``Newlywed Game,'' who conducted a ``not so newlywed game'' with audience members as the players.

Included in the stage entertainment were the Boogie Woogie Mamas; singer Edd Freeman, former member of The Drifters; Bobby Brink, who often shares the stage in Hawaii with Don Ho; soprano soprano [Ital.,=above], female voice of highest pitch. The three basic types of solo soprano are coloratura, lyric, and dramatic. The coloratura has a great range and impressive vocal agility; the lyric soprano has a light, pretty voice; and the dramatic soprano has  Louise Wood; and several child singing stars.
