 DAVIS GAINS FOURTH TERM AS HEAD OF UAW REGION 2;
 SCORES BIG WIN OVER UAW INSIDER, BRANDT
 SAN DIEGO, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Warren Davis has been elected to his fourth consecutive term as director of UAW Region 2 at the 30th Constitutional Convention of the United Auto Workers in San Diego. Election results were announced late yesterday evening.
 Davis defeated Gary Brandt, administrative assistant to UAW International Secretary-Treasurer, Bill Casstevens, 528 delegate votes to 6.7 delegate votes. Davis' winning percentage was 98.75 percent. Each delegate represents 100 UAW members.
 Region 2 recently was enlarged when the UAW reduced from 3 to 2 regions in Ohio. The sprawling district now includes Cleveland, Cincinnati, Erie, Pa., and West Virginia.
 The addition of new locals was thought to represent an opportunity for the challenger, who campaigned for months to unseat Davis. Furthermore, Brandt works closely with the influential Casstevens, whose responsibilities include supervision of the international's agricultural implement activities. This enabled Brandt's supporters to convey the impression that Casstevens was supporting Brandt's candidacy, though Casstevens never claimed such involvement. Casstevens was Region 2 Director prior to moving to the international.
 Throughout the campaign Brandt challenged Davis' refusal to participate in union-management cooperation schemes. Davis' strength was seen to be aided by his aggressive hard-line bargaining practices. Prior to leaving for the national convention, Davis accomplished the successful conclusion of a nine year UAW strike against Park-Ohio in the Cleveland area.
 Davis was elected to his first term as Director of Region 2 at the 1983 Constitutional Convention. The term of office is three years. The convention takes place every three years.
