DAVID KIRKPATRICK ENTERS INTO AGREEMENT WITH PARAMOUNT PICTURES
HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- David Kirkpatrick has entered into a three-year agreement under which he will produce films exclusively for Paramount Pictures, it was announced Wednesday.
Kirkpatrick's production team will establish offices effective Dec. 1 on the Paramount lot in Hollywood, where he launched his motion picture career 16 years ago and where he served most recently as president of the Motion Picture Group.
"David was very valuable to me in my first few months at Paramount," said Brandon Tartikoff, chairman of Paramount Pictures. "I am counting on him to be equally valuable to me and to Paramount as an important producer of theatrical product in the years to come."
Kirkpatrick said: "I am happy to be staying at Paramount, where I have worked most of my adult life. When I started here in 1975 as a story analyst, it was always my dream to be a producer here one day. I am happy that Paramount is allowing me the opportunity to accomplish that dream. I look forward to this new chapter and I am hopeful that I can provide the mountain with some great motion picture entertainment."
Kirkpatrick was president of the Motion Picture Group from Sept. 25, 1990, until Nov. 1 of this year. Previously he was executive vice president of the group. From 1975 to 1986, he rose from the story department to executive vice president of motion picture production at Paramount.
Kirkpatrick has also held the posts of president, production, for Walt Disney Pictures and Touchstone Pictures, and president of Weintraub Entertainment Group's Motion Picture Group.
During his years at Paramount, he was associated with such major films as "An Officer and a Gentleman," "Top Gun," and "Witness."
More recently, he was involved in such Paramount films as "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear," "Regarding Henry," "Frankie and Johnny," "Dead Again" and the upcoming "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country."
Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc.
