DAVID D. LELAND NAMED CHAIRMAN OF PLUM CREEK

 SEATTLE, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Plum Creek Timber Co., L.P. (NYSE: PCL) announced today that David D. Leland has been named chairman of the board of directors of the company's general partner, which was recently acquired by SPO Partners & Co.
 Leland joined Plum Creek in 1983 as president and chief executive officer and has been a member of Plum Creek's board of directors since 1989. In addition to his new role as chairman, Leland will continue as president and chief executive officer.
 Leland, 57, graduated with a B.S. degree in Forestry from the University of Washington in 1958. He began his career in 1959 at Simpson Timber Co. and was vice president of the company's California operations from 1971 to 1976. He joined Southwest Forest Industries in 1976 as their senior vice president, Building Products, and in 1977 became executive vice president, Building Products.
 Leland is the immediate past chairman of the National Forest Products Association and a member of the current board. He serves on the board of trustees of the American Plywood Association and the board of directors of the World Forestry Center and of the Seattle Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Advisory Council to the University of Washington College of Forestry.
 Plum Creek is one of the largest private timberland owners in the Pacific Northwest.
