DAVE DRAVECKY TO HOLD NEWS CONFERENCE TUESDAY, MARCH 31
One of America's most visible and popular figures, former major

league baseball pitcher Dave Dravecky, will conduct a news conference hosted by Zondervan Publishing House (ZPH), the Grand Rapids, Mich.- based publisher of his bestselling and award-winning autobiography, "Comeback," and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where Dravecky has undergone extensive treatment for his cancer.
Dravecky's 30-minute news conference will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, in Room 116 (first floor) of the Rockefeller Research Center, 430 E. 67th St., New York. Enter off 67th Street and walk around the bank of elevators. To secure media credentials, call Elisabeth Vandenberg at 212-639-3635 as soon as possible.
At the news conference, the former San Francisco Giants pitcher will update his medical condition since his pitching arm and shoulder were amputated June 18, 1991. He will also announce the premiere of a major- length documentary film on his life, titled "Dravecky: A Story of Courage and Grace," produced by Emmy-winning ProServ Television, Dallas (a 3-minute video clip is available), and distributed by Zondervan Films. The premiere is by invitation and will be held at the conference center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering later that evening.
"Dravecky: A Story of Courage and Grace" is unique in that it will be initially offered on an exclusive public performance venue basis beginning in April. It will be licensed as part of a special "premiere package" to interested groups, churches, organizations and institutions which will show it to a mass audience in their cities. Each screening will have a customized opening by Dravecky, who will bring a personalized introduction for the sponsoring group or organization.
For information on scheduling an exclusive "premiere" public showing, contact Zondervan's Audio/Video division at 800-727-8004, Ext. 3486.
In addition, Dravecky and his wife Jan are working on another book, collaborating with critically acclaimed author Ken Gire. Titled "When You Can't Comeback" (co-published with HarperSan Francisco), it will be released by ZPH this September. In October, ZPH will release two versions of Dravecky's best-seller "Comeback" -- one for 8- to 12-year- olds, titled "Dave Dravecky," and ZPH's "Today's Heroes Series" of biographies, and the other for 4- to 8-year-olds, titled "A Boy and His Baseball."
Dravecky's courageous and inspiring battle with cancer has been reported by USA Today, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, AP, UPI, and all major networks, including a recent interview with Barbara Walters on ABC's "20/20."
