DAV outreach garners national awards.The DAV See WebDAV. was recently recognized with more than a half-dozen national awards for public outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public. and communications products designed to build greater awareness and support for services to disabled veterans and their families. The awards were the result of entries made to MarCom Creative Awards for 2006. MarCom holds an international competition each year to recognize outstanding achievement by marketing and communications departments. Winners include media conglomerates A Conglomerate is the term used to describe a large corporation that consists of diverse divisions. Conglomerate companies tend to be large multinational corporations with operations in multiple regions of the world. and Fortune 500 companies. Among those entrants, the DAV was given MarCom's highest honor, the Platinum Award, for the documentary film "March of the Bonus Army," which was narrated by actor Gary Sinise, DAV's long-time celebrity spokesperson. A Platinum Award also recognized the feature article "Treating Traumatic Brain Injury Traumatic brain injury (TBI), traumatic injuries to the brain, also called intracranial injury, or simply head injury, occurs when a sudden trauma causes brain damage. TBI can result from a closed head injury or a penetrating head injury and is one of two subsets of acquired brain ," the cover article for the September/October issue of DAV Magazine. "Give Back to Them," the DAV's most recent television public service announcement, featuring Gary Sinise, received a Gold Award. Also receiving Gold Awards were DAV's 2006 Veterans Day poster and "Punishing pun·ish v. pun·ished, pun·ish·ing, pun·ish·es v.tr. 1. To subject to a penalty for an offense, sin, or fault. 2.
