DAV legislative goals.


The new Congress faces a number of challenges, not the least of which is funding non-defense programs such as veterans health care and benefits, a task made more difficult by the cost of military operations This is a list of missions, operations, and projects. "In the months ahead, it will be more important than ever for our nation to remember the sacrifices and service of our men and women in the armed forces and how much we owe to our veterans. Our government has a moral obligation to provide timely access to quality health care for the injured and disabled who paid a price for our freedoms. We must demand that Congress and the Administration provide sufficient resources to care for sick and disabled veterans, especially since America is again fighting a long, difficult war," National Legislative Director Joseph A. Violante said.

The DAV See WebDAV.  has established an ambitious legislative program for 2005. The National Legislative staff and our entire membership will be working together to make sure that this country lives up to its commitment to disabled veterans and their families and survivors.

The DAV's legislative goals are drawn from resolutions adopted by the delegates to our National Convention. The following are some of the major objectives our organization will pursue during the 100th Congress.

Disability Compensation & Other Benefits

* Support legislation to remove the prohibition against concurrent receipt of military longevity retirement pay and VA disability compensation.

* Oppose any change that would redefine service-connected disability or restrict the conditions or circumstances under which it may be established.

* Support legislation to provide service connection to atomic veterans for all recognized radiogenic ra·di·o·ge·nic

* Support legislation to allow all veterans to recover amounts withheld as tax on disability severance pay Severance Pay

Compensation that an employer gives to someone who is about to lose their job.

Notes:
Severance pay is not always paid to employees. It depends on the situation in which the employee is losing their job and whether legislation requires severance to be paid.

* Support legislation to repeal the prohibition against service connection for smoking-related illnesses.

* Support increases in grants for automobiles or other conveyances available to certain disabled veterans and to provide for automatic annual adjustments based on the increase in the cost of living.

* Provide an increase in the specially adapted housing grant and automatic annual adjustments based oil increases in the cast of living.

Medical & Health Care Services

* Support legislation to make VA health care funding mandatory.

* Ensure that timely duality health care services are provided to service-connected disabled veterans.

* Support equal medical services and benefits for women veterans.

* Support the repeal of co-payments for medical services and prescriptions provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Affairs is a term of the business that deals with the relation between a government and its veteran communities, usually administered by the designated government agency. .

* Support repeal of beneficiary travel pay deductibles for service-connected disabled veterans.

General Issues

* Extend spare-available air travel aboard military aircraft to 100% service-connected disabled veterans.
