 DATAWARE AND REFERENCE TECHNOLOGY MERGER ANNOUNCED
 CAMBRIDGE, Mass., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- On Feb. 27, 1992, Dataware


Technologies, Inc. and Reference Technology, Inc., the two leaders in CD-ROM software and services, signed and announced an agreement to merge the two companies. The combined company will offer the most complete line of products and services available for CD-ROM and multimedia development on a wide variety of hardware platforms and operating systems.
 The company retains the Dataware Technologies, Inc. name and is headquartered in Cambridge. Reference's headquarters continue to operate as a complete sales, service and support center in Boulder, Colo. Additional sales offices are located in the Washington, Cincinnati and San Francisco Bay areas. European headquarters are in Munich, Germany, serving distributors in 12 European markets, with additional distribution partners in Australia, Canada and Japan. Kurt Mueller, president and CEO of Dataware, will run the combined company.
 Prior to the merger, Dataware was the world's largest CD-ROM software company, with revenues doubling each of the past three years. The company provides authoring and retrieval software for complete in-house CD-ROM development to more than 150 clients and 30,000 users worldwide. Reference, founded 10 years ago, offers services for custom and standardized CD-ROM products. Both companies have been serving the publishing, government and corporate markets, the majority of Dataware's business has been with commercial publishers, while the majority of Reference's business has been with government and corporate users. Customers of the combined companies have produced over 300 CD-ROM titles.
 Mike Brisnehan, president and CEO of Reference Technology, stated that "this merger also brings together the most experienced development and support teams in the industry."
 The newly-formed Dataware will offer a complete range of production and support for CD-ROM and multimedia customers. This includes services to convert, scan and digitize all types of information at the front end of the process, all the way through to shipping, supporting and maintaining CD-ROM drives and software at the publisher's end user sites.
 According to Mueller, "CD-ROM is no longer an emerging technology. Both Dataware and Reference have been instrumental in developing the technology that has driven the industry's growth." Mueller further stated, "Both companies profited during 1991 from an industry upsurge which now also includes multimedia. The timing could not be better."
 Dataware is exhibiting at the International Multimedia and CD-ROM Exposition in San Francisco March 10-12.
