DATAECHO SYSTEM ANNOUNCED BY BIGSTORAGE INC.BigStorage Inc. has announced its DataEcho system, a complete data storage system that enables corporations to store and update their data in two locations simultaneously. The system uses new technology, called K2-Echo, that lets a system at the primary site continuously update another system, at a secondary site. The DataEcho solution is priced at less than a third of the cost of competing remote mirroring systems, which have typically required very expensive enterprise-class components and custom engineering. Michael Maxey, President of BigStorage, said, "This technology represents an important breakthrough in addressing the needs of mainstream IT departments, especially with the heightened awareness of potential disasters since last week's tragic events in New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of , Washington and Pennsylvania. While we have been developing this system for over two years, we thought this would be an important time to announce the product's availability." The K2-Echo technology uses two separate storage modules, called K2-NAS units. Unlike other NAS (1) See network access server. (2) (Network Attached Storage) A specialized file server that connects to the network. A NAS device contains a slimmed-down operating system and a file system and processes only I/O requests by supporting the popular systems, the K2-NAS employs advanced Linux technology to ensure maximum performance and uptime and is completely compatible with networked systems running Microsoft, Macintosh and Unix operating systems Noun 1. In addition, its use of Linux internally allows new features, such as K2-Echo, to be added more cost-effectively than on traditional NAS systems. At last month's LinuxWorld conference, BigStorage introduced HeartBeat (1) A periodic signal generated by hardware for activation and/or synchronization purposes. See MHz. (2) A periodic signal generated by hardware or software to indicate that it is still running. 1. , local failover capability for the K2-NAS, which guarantees that one K2-NAS module in the same location, can take over immediately for another in case of hardware failure. The K2-Echo technology is the next step forward in fault tolerance See fault tolerant. (architecture) fault tolerance - 1. The ability of a system or component to continue normal operation despite the presence of hardware or software faults. This often involves some degree of redundancy. 2. for BigStorage. If the communication link between the two systems is disconnected, or either system suffers a power outage Noun 1. power outage - equipment failure resulting when the supply of power fails; "the ice storm caused a power outage" power failure equipment failure, breakdown - a cessation of normal operation; "there was a power breakdown" or network crash, the two systems can pause their communications and resume as soon as the link is restored.
