DATA SWITCH WINS $5.3 MILLION ORDER FROM WORLDSPAN

SHELTON, Conn., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Switch Corporation (NASDAQ: DASW) today announced the receipt of a $5.3 million order for data processing channel switches from WorldSpan, L.P., a partnership of Delta, Northwest Airlines, TWA, and Abacus. The products will be shipped to WorldSpan and installed during the next several weeks.
WorldSpan, which is building a comprehensive reservation utility for air and ground transportation and accommodations, will use Data Switch switching systems to protect connections between multiple mainframe computers and peripheral devices in a new data center in Atlanta. Data Switch Model 2400 dual-redundant switches will provide backup for computers, front-end processors, tape storage devices, and printers. Three other Data Switch models will be used at critical points between the disk storage controllers and the disk drives.
WorldSpan's George T. Balog, senior vice president of operations and technology, commented on the Data Switch announcement. "The high-volume transaction processing required for a travel information system demands products that can ensure continuous availability. Data Switch products have been performing this function well for years in the PARS reservation system and in Delta's own reservation network. We were impressed by the performance of the Data Switch products in those applications and therefore adopted those systems for WorldSpan. We also wanted a product platform that could accommodate future architectures as we deploy them."
Data Switch President and Chief Executive Officer J. Roger Moody expressed his pride in being able to participate in what he called "one of the largest reservation systems in the world for every type of travel arrangement. We welcome the opportunity to be a part of the development of the growth of this exciting worldwide network."
Data Switch makes and markets products for ensuring availability of high-performance computer networks. Current product lines include switching systems, channel extenders, ESCON migration products, wide-area network systems, and control systems.
