DATA RACE BREAKS THE 'BULK BARRIER' IN CELLULAR WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS

SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Next week at COMDEX, a major computer tradeshow in Las Vegas, DATA RACE (NASDAQ: RACE) will introduce the RediCELL(TM) family of cellular phone data adapters. These ultra lightweight, adapter cords enable the DATA RACE PCMCIA 2.0 RediCARD(TM) fax/modem to transmit and receive data and fax information over the cellular phone network. RediCELL Cellular Data Adapter Cords are available for the following cellular phone models: AT&T 3710/3730, OKI 900/910, NEC P200/300, Motorola DCP55 Flip/Ultra Lite and Pioneer PCC- 700/900 cellular phones. DATA RACE has applied for a patent for the technology utilized in these adapters.
"The lightweight, 'no bulk' RediCELL Cellular Data Adapters provide the mobile user with a quick and easy method of sending FAXes or data to other devices over the cellular telephone network," said Garrick Colwell, vice president of sales and marketing for DATA RACE. "This is particularly important to users who are in a car, a hotel, or just sitting on a park bench, and need to access information during off-site meetings or who want to update their desktop computer files during a business trip."
Other cellular adapters currently on the market use a bulky box in the cable and many even require a battery. RediCELL has no box, blob, or battery, just one thin cord that is 36 inches long and weights only 1.25 ounces. The RediCELL Cellular Data Adapter plugs into a cellular phone on one end and the PCMCIA card on the other. It does not simulate a telephone company central office nor does it use separate control lines from the modem in order to control the phone.
The PCMCIA RediCARD modems use Tone Burst Technology (TBT) on the audio lines to control the dialing and answering functions of the cellular phones. The modem sends audio tone bursts that are translated by the RediCELL Cellular Data Adapter into the digital signals necessary to control the cellular phone. This allows the computer to auto-dial the phone from the screen, keyboard or resident program; no separate buttons to push.
