Students were honored in three categories. The Christopher Columbus Essay was open to students in grades nine through 12 in public, private, parochial or home schools. The topic this year was ``Christopher Columbus - Imperfect Hero.'' The winner was ninth-grader Caleb Macy of Grace Christian Academy. The American History Essay contest was for students in grades five through eight. This year's topic was ``Along the Trail with Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery, May 1804-Sept. 1806.'' Cade Brummer went on to win the division award. He was recognized at a ceremony Feb. 12 at the Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City. Certificates and $100 savings bonds were presented to each of the winners by the local DAR chapter. Lancaster Councilman Andy Visokey presented certificates to the students from the city. |
