PALMDALE - Eight students in local schools were honored at the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
 Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution's annual awards ceremony.

Students were honored in three categories.

The DAR Good Citizens Scholarship Program was open to all senior class students in accredited accredited

recognition by an appropriate authority that the performance of a particular institution has satisfied a prestated set of criteria.

, Antelope Valley High School Antelope Valley High School is located in Lancaster, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It was founded in 1912[1]. It is located in the Mojave Desert. ; and Isa Vij, Quartz Hill High School Quartz Hill High School is a public, co-educational high school located in Lancaster, California. Founded in 1964, it is the third oldest comprehensive high school in the Antelope Valley High School District (AVHSD). .

The Christopher Columbus Essay was open to students in grades nine through 12 in public, private, parochial or home schools. The topic this year was ``Christopher Columbus - Imperfect Hero.'' The winner was ninth-grader Caleb Macy of Grace Christian Academy.

The American History Essay contest was for students in grades five through eight. This year's topic was ``Along the Trail with Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery, May 1804-Sept. 1806.''

The winners were: Blake McBride, eighth grade, Sacred Heart School Sacred Heart School may refer to one of these schools: In the United States
  • Sacred Heart School (Anniston), in Anniston, Alabama
  • Sacred Heart School (Covina), in Covina, California
  • Sacred Heart School (Saratoga), in Saratoga, California
; Spencer McBride, seventh grade, Sacred Heart School; Cade Brummer, sixth grade, Sacred Heart School; and Gabriel Chavez, fifth grade, Summerwind School.

Cade Brummer went on to win the division award. He was recognized at a ceremony Feb. 12 at the Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City.

Certificates and $100 savings bonds were presented to each of the winners by the local DAR chapter. Lancaster Councilman Andy Visokey presented certificates to the students from the city.
