DANIEL L. SMITH, PH.D., NAMED VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 1995--Commonwealth Aluminum Corporation (Nasdaq/NM: CALC) today announced that Daniel L. Smith, Ph.D., age 48, has joined the Company as Vice President and General Manager of Information Technology. In this position, he will be responsible for building a fully integrated Executive Information System for Commonwealth Aluminum.

Since 1989, Dr. Smith has been a private consultant specializing in power generation, transmission and information technology for industrial and governmental organizations. In addition, he has lectured frequently at Azusa Pacific University, University of Southern California, and University of Idaho. Prior to that, Smith worked for Southern California Edison, one of the world's largest public utilities. While there, he held positions as Corporate Manager of Human Resource Development and General Manager of Quality and Training in the Information Technology Department.

Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, a Masters Degree from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelors Degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
