DANIEL B. FITZPATRICK NAMED INDIANA ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR.
This is the tenth anniversary for the Entrepreneur of the Year Competition. Judging is based upon a number of considerations, including the financial performance of the nominee's company and the innovation and personal energy demonstrated by executives in starting and developing their respective firms.
Fitzpatrick entered the restaurant business at the age of 14, advancing rapidly to become a restaurant general manager at a Burger King restaurant by the age of 18. In 1981, at the age of 24, Fitzpatrick became one of the Burger King's youngest franchisees when he founded Quality Dining, Inc. through the acquisition of two units in Detroit, Michigan. Today, Quality Dining is a multi-concept restaurant company with operations located throughout the United States.
Through internal growth and acquisition, Quality Dining has become one of the leading restaurant companies in the country. Currently, Quality Dining owns the Bruegger's Bagel Bakery, Grady's American Grill and Spageddies Italian Kitchen restaurant concepts. In addition, the Company is a franchisee of Burger King and Chili's Grill & Bar restaurants.
In addition to his leadership of Quality Dining, Fitzpatrick actively serves on many corporate, community and philanthropic boards. A national award winner will be selected from the regional recipients at a national conference later this year.
As of June 18, 1996, Quality Dining, Inc. operated a total of 205 quick service and casual theme dining restaurants located throughout the country. The Company operated 76 Bruegger's Bagel Bakeries, 63 Burger King restaurants, 42 Grady's American Grill restaurants, 19 Chili's Grill and Bar restaurants, and 5 Spageddies Italian Kitchen restaurants. The Company also franchised an additional 261 Bruegger's Bagel Bakeries.
