Herbert River Falls Herbert River Falls are on the Herbert River on the northern boundary of the Girringun National Park, west of Cardwell, in Queensland, Australia.  in Australia is a beautiful and dangerous place, a perfect setting for the second edition of CBS' ``Survivor'' game and one well-known to executive producer Mark Burnett Mark Burnett (born 17 July, 1960) is a British-American television producer.  snakes and planning the challenges for this second installment of the popular reality television franchise, Burnett returned to a landscape he knew from filming the ``Eco-Challenge Australia'' for Discovery Channel in August 1996.

The first installment of ``The Australian Outback'' will air Jan. 28 after the Super Bowl.

``Herbert River Falls is one of the places we had camera crews placed,'' said producer Jim Milio of Studio City-based MPH Productions, which filmed the ``Eco-Challenge.'' ``I'm sure Burnett picked it because he was familiar with it, because we had already filmed there.

``It's beautiful and dangerous all at the same time. There are a number of dangerous animals, including 10 of the 11 most poisonous snakes in the world. I think there were at least 30 to 40 pages to the disclosure and disclaimer agreement that the contestants had to sign, acknowledging all the dangers.''

``Eco-Challenge'' set 50 teams of four on an all-terrain race through the rugged countryside. They were given topographical maps See under Cadastral. - Topographical surveying. See under Surveying.

``In the `Eco-Challenge' everyone had to rappel up it. It was pretty scary. My guess is they may have (the `Survivor' contestants) do something on the falls.''

Although Burnett created both series, which pit men and women against harsh environments under constant camera surveillance, Milio said the programs are very different at heart.

He said ``Survivor'' is ``actually the antithesis antithesis (ăntĭth`ĭsĭs), a figure of speech involving a seeming contradiction of ideas, words, clauses, or sentences within a balanced grammatical structure. What we liked about `Eco-Challenge' was it was teamwork. `Survivor' is all about the worst qualities of human nature: cattiness cat·ty 1

Milio said MPH has been offered other ``Survivor''-like reality programs, but the partners, who include Mark Hofnail, have passed on them.

``The thing we really liked about `Eco-Challenge' was it was about the positive qualities of the human spirit and how you can pull off nearly impossible challenges with cooperation,'' Hofnail said. ``All the other shows seem to bring out the worst in people.''
