DANCERS TAKE FLIGHT FOR GIG ON AIR.VERTIGO is perhaps the smallest of their worries. Not quite content with wowing audiences with their dance moves on ground, a US- based troupe has now mastered what they term as " aerial dance Aerial modern dance is a sub-genre of modern dance which was first recognized in the United States in the 1970s. The choreography incorporates specialty apparatus often attached to the ceiling, allowing performers to explore space in three-dimensions. ". Supported by nothing but nylon ropes and pure nerve, Project Bandaloop has devised an interesting fusion of dance and adventure sports, wherein they perform on a variety of places, which include skyscrapers and mountain peaks. And their latest ' platform' was Uttarakhand's Nanda Devi Nanda Devi (nŭn`də dā`vē), peak, 25,645 ft (7,817 m) high, Uttaranchal state, N India, in the Himalayas. Except for some peaks in Kashmir, it is the highest point in India. -- the second highest peak in India. Six dancers performed a number of sequences of their ' vertical dance', while hanging off the sides of boulders, at five different locations near and on Nanda Devi. The company spent one week filming dances on boulders at Sri Ganesh base camp and Gorson meadows in Nanda Devi with snow- capped mountains forming a breathtaking background. Filmmaker Logan Scheider used a 16- mm camera to capture the dances while Todd Laby shot high- definition videos. Lensman Atossa Soltani shot stills of the work. The dancers -- Heather Baer, Melecio Estrella, Damara Ganley, Rachael Lincoln, Amelia Rudolph and Mark Stuver -- braved sub- zero temperatures and uneven terrain to improvise graceful moves while hanging off cliffs. Creative director Amelia Rudolph says, " We travelled to the high Himalaya to perform and create site- specific dances. The performance was warmly received by the community." Bandaloop has also performed at locations such as Seattle Space Needle Noun 1. Space Needle - a tower 605 feet tall in Seattle; a tourist attraction Seattle - a major port of entry and the largest city in Washington; located in west central Washington on the protected waters of Puget Sound with the snow-capped peaks of the Cascade , Pacific cliffs in California and the Vasco da Gama Tower The Vasco da Gama Tower (Portuguese: Torre Vasco da Gama, pron.
