DANCERS SHOW WORLD THEIR MOVES.

They made their audience feel like dancing as 14 members of the California Dance Theater visited Austria over the summer to perform at the Tanzsommer Invitational Dance Festival.

Invited to perform at several venues, the group danced at schools and in Innsbruck and St. Johann in Austria, as well as at Euro Disney in Paris.

``We had such wonderful camaraderie, the people were wonderful!'' said Lori Sorensen, administrative director and partner at the dance school that has been open for six years. ``In St. Johann the audience had so much energy, they were stomping their feet and showed so much appreciation. They love Americans and they are such friendly people.''

The performers included: Nicole Myers, Ellie Mizrabagi, Ashley Ponciroli, Ashley Feinsinger, Lacey Lichty, Pia Young, Laura Willens, Jaime Ohlrich, Janet Lin Megan Archambault, Erin Fries, Anna Reifsnyder, Jessica Sachs and Melissa Aust.

Kim Maselli is the group's artistic director and co-owner of the dance studio.

The group was selected by Gail Jensen, director of the Summer Tanzsommer Festival, who travels around the country, auditioning dance groups for the annual event.

Thousand Oaks resident Carolynn Bauer Zorn has written and self-published, ``Attending Your Grandchild's Birth,'' a book that prepares new grandparents to enjoy and participate in the birth process.

Zorn said she made up her mind to write the book at the memorial service after the full-term, stillbirth of one of her grandsons. The grandmother of four had not been prepared for new hospital technology or the grief she faced on the day her daughter went to the hospital.

She hopes to ready other grandparents.

``I went to 50 or 60 publishers and every one turned the book down,'' she said, explaining she understood their apprehension was because there wasn't enough information that significant numbers of grandparents attend a grandchild's birth.

``I am on a mission,'' she said. ``It's not like in the movies ... a lot of rules have changed.''

Included in the guide, which she recommends grandparents take with them to the birth, is a reminder that anything can happen.

The author has attended the births of each grandson, Joseph, Thomas, Erik and Andrew.

Zorn spent six months researching self-publishing sources and believes determination is what it takes to get a book published.

``Anyone who has a cause can write a book and see that the people who need the information can get it,'' she said.

A book signing is scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Barnes and Noble Bookstore, 160 Westlake Blvd., Thousand Oaks. It can also be ordered online through major bookstores.

Engineering and computer science students who attend California State University, Northridge, have been awarded various scholarships totaling $40,000, at a reception held Sept. 14.

Presidential Scholars and their fields of study are: Helen Avila, Michael Vogel and Tim Tresierras, mechanical engineering; Adam Baker, Matthew Worland and Claudia Morales, computer science; and Mandeep Sehmbey, electrical engineering. Other scholarship recipients are: Prudencio Alonso and Kamyar Ghods, civil engineering; Corey Wayne Ballantoni, David Gonzalez and Doris Roman, mechanical engineering; Arash Gorgzadeh, Duy Hoang, Pavel Markovsky, Minh Nguyen, Armen Shagmirian, Robert Bruck and Michael Murphy, computer science.

Electrical engineering scholars are: Elli E. Dushane, Mark Ha and Tehseena Sultana Khan.

Also, Elizabeth Gutierrez was awarded in manufacturing systems and Fidel Pezo for manufacturing engineering systems.

Michael Spirtos has completed his basic training at Westpoint Military Academy in New York. The graduate of the class of 2000 from Calabasas High School is the son of Maria and Michael Spirtos of Hidden Hills.
