Under Alliger, Boston became an important stop on the international contemporary dance circuit, sponsoring nearly annual performances by the Mark Morris Dance Group, until recently, and the Bill T. Dance Umbrella's founder says he's moving on. He has been working for the past year to create his own producing company. "Not another Dance Umbrella structure," he says. He has been working on three projects, including touring versions of the Aerial and Wheelchair Festivals and a jazz/hip-hop production. Also under consideration is an invitation from the Israeli government to organize a festival of Israeli dance companies.

With the current turmoil at the Boston Ballet over the sudden departure of artistic director-designate Maina Gielgud and the demise of Dance Umbrella, the Boston dance scene has been much impoverished.
