LANCASTER - What do Mickey Mouse Mickey Mouse

Famous character of Walt Disney's animated cartoons. He was introduced in Steamboat Willie (1928), the first animated cartoon with sound. Mickey was created by Disney, who also provided his high-pitched voice, and was usually drawn by the studio's head animator,
and Hester Williams have in common? They both turn 75 this week and neither of them looks that age.

They're both fun types, too, who spend a lot of time giving pleasure to others.

Williams is the executive director of the 40 & Up Singles dance club, which meets every Sunday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Elks Club, 240 East Ave. K.

Tickets are $4 for members and $6 for nonmembers at the door, and almost every week there is a special theme.

This Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  has been dubbed the ``Mickey Mouse Birthday Dance.'' The first Mickey Mouse cartoon, ``Steamboat Willie Steamboat Willie (1928) is an animated cartoon featuring Mickey Mouse released on November 18, 1928. It was the third Mickey Mouse cartoon to be made, though the first with sound. Disney decided to use Pat Powers Cinephone system. ,'' debuted on Nov. 18, 1928.

Members and guests are urged to ``dress to impress'' and help celebrate. Williams will be there, but don't count on the real Mickey to attend.

Showman DJ 2 Cool Chris will provide the dance music.

Always ready to have a good time, Williams has been known to appear at some of the special dances in costume. She attended the club's luau in a real grass skirt, and for the Halloween bash she dressed as the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants This article is about the series. ``I make all my own costumes,'' she said. ``I'll show up in anything that I think will get a laugh.''

Originally from Weehawken, N.J., Williams has been director of the singles club The term "singles club" can refer to one of two things:

since June but has already made strides in building up the membership.

``We hit 90 at last week's dance,'' she said. ``Attendance dropped off there for a while and I was asked to take over to see what I could do to build it up. From the start, I've been aiming for 90. Now we've done it and I'm happy.''

Williams has been widowed three times and has five grown children. They are David Hart, an attorney in Simi Valley; daughter Jude Lee of West Sacramento; Richard Hart, a contractor in Rathdrum, Idaho; Jeffrey Hart of Lancaster; and Mark Williams of Quartz Hill.

Never one to sit around, Williams has been active all her life and involved in numerous projects.

She not only buys and sells properties, she does a lot of the manual labor in remodeling remodeling /re·mod·el·ing/ (re-mod´el-ing) reorganization or renovation of an old structure.

``I did it with my husband at first, but since his death I've been doing it on my own,'' she said. ``There's nothing like the satisfaction you can get from making an ugly house into a beautiful home that someone will find easy to love.''

She also manages five rental properties, dances regularly at the Palmdale Senior Center, travels occasionally and collects ``See no evil'' monkey statues. She has also volunteered at the local domestic violence shelter.

``Right now, with the holiday season coming up, we are starting a drive for the shelter,'' she said. ``We need donations of anything that can't be purchased with food stamps.''

She said that includes items like soap of any kind, toothpaste, shampoo, laundry and cleaning supplies, bleach, diapers, toilet paper, facial tissues and cosmetics.

``I'm very partial to women who have to raise children alone,'' she said. ``My heart belongs to our local domestic violence shelter. I volunteered there for about ten years and it was a wonderful experience.''

As community service chairman for the Lancaster Women of the Moose this year, Williams is making sure that some needy family in the community will receive the makings of a good Thanksgiving meal.

``I'm really a new member, but I think even new people should get involved,'' she said, ``and if I'm going to be community service chairman, I want to do community service and not just give it lip service.''

She's also a member of the Lancaster Elks auxiliary, Emblem Club 76.

``I'm kept pretty busy,'' she said. ``I don't have time to be a couch potato couch potato An Americanism for a sedentary person, usually ♂, whose predominant non-work activity consists in lying on a couch, watching TV.
