    CUPERTINO, Calif., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Apple USA division of Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) today announced the appointment of Dan Byrne as vice president of customer support, products and services.
    Byrne, an 11-year Apple veteran, joins Apple USA from Apple Europe, where he most recently served as senior director of European Operations and was a member of both the European Executive Committee and Worldwide Operations team.  In the U.S. assignment, he succeeds Morris Taradalsky, who was recently named vice president and general manager for Apple's Enterprise Systems Division.  Byrne reports to Bob Puette, president of Apple USA.
    "Dan brings a rich base of management experience, including service and repair operations experience, a focus on customer satisfaction and quality management to his new post," said Puette.     Byrne began his career with Apple at the company's manufacturing facility in his native Cork, Ireland.  After holding a number of management positions at the plant -- including responsibility for manufacturing, operations, Information Systems and Technology, and European service and repair -- he served as its managing director.  As senior director of European Operations, he was responsible for manufacturing, distribution, OEM procurement, product planning and service logistics.
    Byrne's appointment follows a series of new executive assignments in Apple USA, designed to better align the sales and marketing organizations to focus on Apple's key market segments. In addition to Byrne, the U.S. management team reporting to Puette includes: Mike Dionne, senior vice president and general manager, Institutional; Keith Fox, vice president and general manager, Consumer; Godfrey Sullivan, vice president and general manager, Business Markets; Cheryl Vedoe, vice president and general manager, Education; and Cliff Jenks, vice president, Sales and Marketing Support.
