It is usually an array of charge-coupled devices (CCD) or CMOS sensors such as active-pixel sensors.  chips to Mamiya, a leading manufacturer of professional "medium format" cameras. DALSA will supply the customer with a minimum quantity of sensors valued at $20 million. The contract is for a five year period but the Company expects the minimum quantity to be delivered over the next two years with the potential for follow-on orders.

DALSA's 22 million pixel CCD image sensor chips will be "the eyes" of the new Mamiya ZD, the world's first fully integrated and portable (non-tethered) medium format digital camera. The professional grade device is being launched this week at Photokina, the world's largest photography and imaging trade show.

Medium format cameras are used extensively by commercial photographers for advertising, wedding, portrait, and landscape work. Compared to the smaller 35mm format, the imaging area on a medium format camera is several times larger, providing sharper, higher quality images with significantly more detail. As in other areas of photography, medium format is rapidly transitioning from film to digital. The move is being fueled by the availability of viable digital camera and workflow solutions that allow commercial photographers to eliminate film costs and significantly increase productivity.

"We're extremely pleased to be supplying our image sensor chips for the very high end of professional digital photography," said Savvas Chamberlain, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of DALSA Corporation. "This contract clearly underscores DALSA's strength in applying its leading edge technology to the fastest growing imaging segments. It also provides good visibility into the prospects of our imaging business as we move into 2005."

DALSA expects shipments under the contract to begin in late 2004 with an anticipated ramp-up in 2005 once the customer's camera gains broad market acceptance. Anticipated revenues for 2004 have already been included in the Company's recently updated revenue targets for the year.
