COLLEGES

College of the Canyons

Quarterback Jason Winn, expected to return this week after suffering a concussion against Cerritos on Sept. 21, probably will sit out at least one more game, according to head coach Chuck Lyon.

In the meantime, Kyle Bauer, who had been alternating with Winn, will continue to be the full-time quarterback. He has completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,086 yards and 12 touchdowns for the Cougars (3-1) heading into Saturday night's game at Santa Monica (2-2).

The Master's College

Tuesday was a good day for the men's soccer team and the women's volleyball team, both of which ended losing streaks.

The soccer team (7-3-1) defeated visiting Hope International University 6-0 to end a two-game skid. Tim MacConnell scored three goals, and freshman goalkeeper Kevin Howard earned his third shutout of the season.

The volleyball team (4-5), coming off five consecutive losses, defeated Vanguard University in straight games. Seniors Kat Kern and Erika Sansoni combined for 28 kills, and the team committed only six errors.

HIGH SCHOOLS

Canyon

There figures to be a brother legacy among Canyon football running backs the next few years. Junior Louis Montano, the team's top tailback, has a brother, Michael, who is among the top freshmen running backs. Varsity senior fullback Sam Aguirre's brother, Josue Josue (jŏs`yē), variant of Joshua., is the leading rusher for the junior-varsity team.

Hart

The freshman football team, coming off an 8-6 victory (reserve players only) over St. Francis of La Canada, is 4-0 heading into today's 4 p.m. matchup against visiting Lakewood (3-1).

Robbie Casselberry has rushed for 320 yards and scored five touchdowns, and Steve Burton has passed for three touchdowns.

``Robbie is just phenomenal,'' coach Dan Cota said.

Middle linebacker Pat Sarkissian is the leading tackler.

Saugus

Wide receiver Kevin Estes and cross country runner Jessica Gomez have been named Saugus athletes of the month. Estes and his teammates play St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. Friday at College of the Canyons. The next cross country meet is Saturday at the Clovis Invitational in Fresno.

Valencia

Several injured JV football players are expected to return this week. Receiver Aren Rai (appendix), running back Randy Calderon (shoulder) and defensive lineman Nicholas Murillo (back) should be cleared for Friday's 4:30 p.m. game at Chaminade of West Hills. Defensive lineman Brandon Jones (back) should be back next week.
