COLLEGES

College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.

Canyon

Thursday is a busy day for Canyon athletics. The frosh football team travels to Saddleback Saddleback

 in Santa Ana for a 4 p.m. game. The girls' golf team faces Burbank at El Cariso Golf Course at 2:30 p.m. The girls' tennis team plays host to Moorpark at 3:15 p.m. And the girls' volleyball team plays host to Alemany of Mission Hills at 4:45 p.m.

Hart

The girls' volleyball team, coming off a straight-set opening loss to Ventura, hopes to pick things up Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Quartz Hill. The Indians, under first-year coach Mark Cruz, then travel to Edison High in Huntington Beach for the Dave Mohs Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Outside hitters Ashley Lawler and Emily Steckel are expecting productive seasons.

The football team has a terrific Web Site: saugusfootball.com. The site includes rosters for varsity, JV and frosh, along with news updates and upcoming events. One of the best things about the site is a ``slide show'' featuring lots of professional, well-focused pictures.

Valencia

Former Vikings baseball standout Jimmy Rohan left Tuesday for Vero Beach, Fla., to attend the Dodgers' instructional league. Rohan, a shortstop, signed with the Dodgers as a free agent in late July.
