The boys' golf team, although young, is already showing signs of improvement this season and has players capable of finishing among the best in the Golden League.

The Antelopes' roster consists of three freshmen, a sophomore and one senior, Jason Lee, who finished eighth in the league last season. Lee already has shot in the low 80s twice this season.

Coach Brent Newcomb called the other Antelopes standout, Jarrod Williamson, his ``diamond in the rough.'' The sophomore shot 87 last week and has the potential to shoot sub-80 scores by the end of the season.

The team will play in a Golden League match today at Rancho Vista Golf Club at 1 p.m.

The softball team struggled against strong pitching from Burroughs of Ridgecrest on Tuesday, dropping both games of a doubleheader 9-0 and 6-4.

``We're just not playing good softball,'' said coach Gene Speidel, whose team lost its fourth consecutive game. ``We're not hitting well and we're not fielding well.''

Speidel pointed to his pitching staff as the lone highlight for the Falcons. Amanda Locksmith and Michelle Lee split the pitching duties in the doubleheader.

Quartz Hill

The softball team has played a brutal schedule thus far. Valencia (7-1) was the latest difficult task on Tuesday, and the Vikings dropped the Rebels to an uncharacteristic 2-6 with a 5-0 win.

Quartz Hill figures to be in the mix once Golden League play starts. It plays host to Faith Baptist today in a 3:15 p.m. nonleague matchup.
