DAILY UPDATE.HIGH SCHOOLS Antelope Valley Jordan Hack came up a victory short of becoming the first wrestler since 1995 to advance to the state tournament. Hack climbed out of the consolation bracket to make the fourth round at 189 pounds before an ankle sprain ended his season. Hack was up 6-1 on Cabrillo of Lompoc's J.T. Hott when the sprain left him barely able to stand. Hack lost 10-6 and finished the season with a 35-6 record. JeSean Clark was eliminated in the first round Saturday at 103 pounds. None of the 11 Golden League wrestlers at Masters advanced to the state tournament. - Matthew Kredell Highland The softball team will open the 2004 season under new coach Danny Morrow at the Hart tournament this weekend. Highland drew Chaminade of West Hills in its opening round game Saturday at 9 a.m. Chaminade also has a new coach this season in Jon Ellinghouse. The Eagles are led by pitcher Veronica Barth, who is also their top hitter. The winner of the Highland-Chaminade game will face the winner of the Westlake-Chatsworth game at 1 p.m. - Ramona Shelburne Lancaster The boys' basketball team will make its first semifinal appearance in school history when it takes on top-seeded Etiwanda tonight at 7:30 in a Div. I-AA semifinal at A.B. Miller High in Fontana. - Ramona Shelburne Littlerock The swim team has a new coach this season in Jeff Bolter. Tammie Furman left after nine years to start a team at new Knight High. Littlerock nearly hired Quartz Hill's Mark Thibault, who was the Daily News Coach of the Year last season. But Thibault, who teaches at Littlerock, had a late change of heart. Littlerock returns junior Alissa Dundes, who qualified for the section championships a year ago in the 100 butterfly. - Matthew Kredell Palmdale Juniors Robyn Blondeel-Timmerman and Jessica Cable were named to the All-Golden League girls' soccer team. Palmdale was third in league and lost in the first round of playoffs for the second consecutive year. Junior Ashley Thomas and freshman Stacie Pearson were named to the second team. - Lauren Gustus Paraclete The boys' soccer team will look for another strong performance from its defense when it plays on the road against Nordhoff of Ojai in a Southern Section Div. V semifinal today at 3 p.m. Paraclete (20-5-4), the defending Southern Section champions, is in the semifinals for the second time in school history and has held its three playoff opponents to nine shots - including just one in a 3-0 victory over Silverado on Feb. 24. Defenders Andrew Hernandez, Chris Bower, Dylan Leslie and Kyle Hitch have helped goalie Kyle Burkhardt break his school record for shutouts with 19. ``I can't say enough about those guys in the back and the job they've done all year,'' coach Pat McIver said. - Gideon Rubin Quartz Hill The boys' soccer team plays Bell Gardens Bell Gardens, city (1990 pop. 42,355), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles; inc. 1961. Manufactures include tools, motor vehicle parts, and fabricated wire products. at 3 p.m. today at the Rebels' home field in a Southern Section Div. I semifinal. Quartz Hill advanced with a 1-0 victory over Damien on Friday. Goalkeeper Mike Davis kept Damien of La Verne forwards at bay and junior El Shaddi Bent connected with Casey Jennison in the 53rd minute for the game's only goal.
