Highland

The boys' basketball team is off to a solid start. The Bulldogs defeated Desert and lost to La Canada early last week, then went 3-1 at the Saugus tournament. Highland beat Oxnard, Canyon and Buena of Ventura. Saugus was the only team to beat the Bulldogs in the tournament. Guard Tomoreo Allen scored 31 points in the loss.

Highland (3-2), plays tonight at 6:45 against Canoga Park in the first game of the Canyon Tournament.

Shelburne was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills, California where she was a class valedictorian.
 

Lancaster

The boys' basketball team will compete in the prestigious Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  Tournament this week. Lancaster plays Westlake today at 4 p.m., Harvard-Westlake of Studio City on Wednesday at 4 p.m., and Rio Mesa of Oxnard on Friday at 3 p.m. The tournament concludes Saturday.

The boys' soccer team closed the Clovis West Tournament near Fresno with three consecutive victories and finished 4-1 in the event.

The Falcons play host to Paraclete, last season's Southern Section Div. V runner-up, today at 4:30 p.m.

The girls' basketball team won the Littlerock tournament Saturday, its first tournament title in at least four years.

The Spirits (5-0), who are off to their best start in years, were led by junior forwards Bria Fields (27 ppg) and Jessica Echenique (12 ppg).

Paraclete defeated Taft 65-31 in the championship game.

Quartz Hill

The boys' soccer team will travel Thursday to Newhall for a 3:15 p.m. meeting with defending Foothill League champion Hart.

The Rebels, fresh off a victory in the Lancaster Tournament final, will closely watch Indians forward Matt Valaika, who scored two goals in Hart's opener.
