COLLEGES

College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  

Foothill League softball standouts Kirsten Lindgreen of Saugus and Ashley Zimmerman of Hart plan to play softball at College of the Canyons next spring. They've filled out applications, according to according to

 National Championships in Oloathe, Kan. After winning the Region II championship two weeks ago, the team is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA poll. Last year, The Master's finished third in the nation.

HIGH SCHOOLS

Canyon

Two-sport standout Drew Peterson has committed to play baseball at San Jose State. Peterson, a leadoff hitter who plays center field, is batting .394 with two home runs in 71 at-bats. He's also a two-year starter at defensive back for the football team.

Valencia

Baseball standout Jared Clark is the Foothill League's all-time career home run leader with 25 after hitting two in a nonleague game against visiting Mater Dei of Santa Ana on Saturday.

Clark, a 6-foot-4 senior first baseman/pitcher who has committed to Cal State Fullerton, eclipsed Richie Martin's mark of 23 (Valencia, 1999-2001).

Clark, who has 10 home runs this season, has two regular-season games remaining and as many as five Southern Section playoff games in which to add to the record.
