COLLEGES

College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  

Sophomore Brad Upgraft of the state champion men's golf team has signed with Cal State Northridge. Upgraft, a graduate of Valencia High, helped the Cougars to their fifth consecutive Western State Conference title as he finished with the conference's top average (73.5).

The Master's College History
The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast.
 

The women's volleyball team is poised to have a strong season, which begins Aug. 20 with a home game against Cornerstone University.

The Mustangs went 13-15 overall and 9-11 in their first season in the rugged Golden State Athletic Conference The Golden State Athletic Conference is a college athletics conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The conference commissioner is Dr. Cliff Hamlow of Azusa Pacific University. Conference leadership is shared among the member institutions. . But two returning seniors give The Master's a talented tandem at the net.

Middle blocker Kathryn Kern was second in the GSAC GSAC Golden State Athletic Conference
GSAC Governance Structural Adjustment Credit (World Bank)
GSAC Greater San Antonio Chapter (of the National Contract Management Association) 
 in blocks, and Erika Sansoni was fourth in that same category. Both were all-conference selections and will be among the elite players this fall.

They play in the class A South Atlantic League and are an affiliate of the New York Yankees. Their home stadium is at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. , who are fourth in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League The South Atlantic League, or "Sally League," is a minor league baseball league which operates mostly in the southeastern United States, although it now has teams in New Jersey and Ohio. .

Seddon is second on the team in strikeouts (62) but leads the club in walks (45).

Hart

Hart's football team lost by one touchdown to South Hills in the final of the Mt. San Antonio passing tournament Sunday in Walnut.

The defeat followed a loss to Crescenta Valley in the final of the Covina tournament the previous week. The Indians have won three passing tournament titles this summer.

Quarterback Sean Norton's primary receivers this summer have been returning starters Kevin Ciccone and Todd Wilson.

Saugus

The baseball team is having a fund-raiser Thursday at Mama Mia's restaurant on Bouquet Canyon Road in the Von's shopping center. Mention Saugus baseball for an eat-in, takeout or delivery order between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. and part of the payment will go to helping the team.

Valencia

The Vikings baseball team began Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs Sunday with an 8-3 victory over Sylmar. Jon Porter allowed three hits and two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings to improve to 4-0. Wes Pascola, Matt Aidem and Sammy Tyndall each had multiple hits as top-seeded Valencia improved to 25-2-1. After facing Cleveland of Reseda on Monday, the Vikings return to action Wednesday at 5 p.m. The double-elimination tournament concludes Sunday with the championship game at 7 p.m. at USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. .
