Senior safety Joe Martin made an impact almost immediately with the Spirits' football program. He was a late-season call-up as a freshman and blocked a key field goal and two extra points to beat Montclair Prep of Van Nuys 35-34 in the 1999 Southern Section Division XII playoffs.

Perhaps another sophomore, defensive tackle Dustin Howard, will pull a Martin on Saturday when Paraclete and Montclair Prep meet again for the Division XII title. Martin sees a lot of his own aggressive play in Howard.

``That kid has an attitude,'' Martin said. ``He's going to be a player.''
