Track coach Rob Hucke said he thinks junior Darius Clarke could contend for the Golden League title in the 100 and 200 meters this season. Clarke, a linebacker and receiver on the football team, is a dark-horse candidate. But the title is up for grabs, with last year's champion, Lancaster's Kelvin Love, having graduated.

Highland

The baseball team will open its Golden League season at 7:30 Friday night at Lancaster Municipal Stadium against three-time defending league champion Quartz Hill. Quartz Hill (3-3) is coming off an 11-2 victory over Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks on Monday and an 11-10 victory over Harvard-Westlake of Studio City on Saturday.

Highland (2-4) has lost three in a row.

Lancaster

The baseball team will face Littlerock at 6:30 tonight at Lancaster Municipal Stadium as part of the third annual Varsity First Pitch.

Lancaster has struggled early, losing four of five games and allowing 47 runs (9.4 runs per game). Littlerock (3-0) is the only team in the league with a winning record, but has only beaten small schools.

The Lobos' swim program, with just six boys and nine girls, will get to test its skills against defending Golden League champion at 3 p.m. today at McAdams Pool. The Lobos, under first-year coach and 2003 Littlerock graduate Derek Kirwan, faced the Rebels in Saturday's Antelope Valley Invitational at Eastside Pool.

Palmdale

In the Herb Wyre Relays, no Palmdale individual won an event but, collectively, the Falcons dominated the distance relays. Palmdale won the 1,600 relay, 3,200 relay and 4,000 medley. The Falcons also won the 800 sprint medley. As for second-place finishes, Jabral Maxie was runner-up in the boys' 100 meters, Christyn Keeling in the girls' 100 meters, Xavier Johnson in the boys' high jump and Jeffrey Holden in the boys' pole vault pole vault

Quartz Hill

The Rebels boys' and girls' track and field teams will get a good tuneup at 3 p.m. today in a Golden League dual meet at Antelope Valley in preparation to host their annual Percy Knox Invitational at Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties. . The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday.
