COLLEGES

College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  

Softball pitcher Cassie Shires, one of California's most dominant junior college left-handers in the past two seasons, is considering an offer from Eastern New Mexico Eastern New Mexico is a region of the U.S. state of New Mexico. The Master's College History
The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast.

 golf championships in Olathe, Kan., was delayed because of bad weather Tuesday, and none of the players from third-ranked Master's completed his round.

Wednesday's schedule called for completion of the first round, followed by a shotgun-start second round beginning at 1:30 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOLS

Canyon

The season ended for the boys' volleyball team with a loss to Laguna Beach Laguna Beach (ləg`nə), city (1990 pop. 23,170), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast; founded 1887, inc. 1927.  in the second round of the Div. II playoffs Tuesday. But the prospects for next season are good considering many of the team's top players, including sophomore outside hitter John Murray Not to be confused with John Murry.
There have been several important people by the name of John Murray (roughly in chronological order):
  • John Murray of Falahill, a Scottish outlaw
  • John Murray, 1st Duke of Atholl (1660-1724)
, are expected to return. Murray led the team with 13 kills against Laguna Beach.

Hart

The baseball team's 2-1 victory in 10 innings against visiting Palmdale in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Div. II playoffs Tuesday was scoreless through nine innings.

But the contest wasn't the longest scoreless game in Hart history. In the 1994 section quarterfinals, Hart and Rio Mesa of Oxnard were scoreless for 9 1/2 innings before Rio Mesa won 1-0 on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th.

Saugus

The softball team plans to play its home playoff games at nearby Central Park in Saugus beginning 3:15 p.m. Friday against visiting Hueneme of Oxnard.

Valencia

After breezing past visiting Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta in the second round of the Div. II volleyball playoffs Tuesday, top-seeded and defending section champion Valencia (14-1) faces Dos Pueblos of Goleta in the quarterfinals Friday at a site to be determined.
