Littlerock

There were high hopes for the boys' soccer team after a 10-1 start, but it struggled in the Golden League and probably will not make the playoffs, despite being the only team to beat first-place Palmdale in league. Jose Vargas scored in the sixth minute and goalkeeper Billy Haynes made 11 saves in a 1-0 shutout over the Falcons.

Paraclete

Still a longshot to make the playoffs, the girls' soccer team could get some extra help for the final week of Olympic League play.

Sophomores Lexie Ruelas and Dani Culver, who are coming off leg injuries, received medical clearance for Paraclete's final two regular-season games.

Ruelas, a defender who underwent knee surgery in December to repair torn meniscus meniscus /me·nis·cus/ (me-nis´kus) pl. menis´ci   [L.] something of crescent shape, as the concave or convex surface of a column of liquid in a pipet or buret, or a crescent-shaped cartilage in the knee joint. , played in a nonleague game against Desert Christian on Saturday.

Culver, a defender/midfielder who reinjured a broken leg last month, began practicing late last week.

Quartz Hill

El Shaddi Bent helped the Quartz Hill boys' soccer team claim sole possession of the Golden League's second-place spot Thursday with a goal in a victory over Littlerock.

The Rebels (6-2) would like nothing better than to take the league's second playoff spot for the second consecutive year. To do so, they must take care of Antelope Valley today and try for a victory over first-place Palmdale on Friday.
