The junior varsity football team had a productive bye week last week, using the time to work on fundamentals and concentrate on academics.

``The bye week could not have come at a better time. It allowed us to heal and reflect on our past games,'' coach John Reinhard said. ``We sat and reviewed the video from the Alemany game, we found we were missing some basic fundamentals. It was like starting again with two days where practice was all about basic fundamentals.

``This bye week allowed many of our players to make up work. Many of our games were further than 60 miles away, so we had to miss more than a half a day of school. But only a few players have low grades, and all of them should be able to raise their grades to remain eligible before the quarter ends. Our goal is not to lose any players this year due to eligibility issues. As coaches, we have to remind them that they are student athletes - students first, athletes second.''
