THE police in North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  are to introduce a simple three digit number for those wishing to make non-emergency calls, to replace the current longer numbers which are hard to remember.

It's a good idea in principle because it will make the force more accessible to the public.

However it's likely to increase by 50,000 the annual number of calls dealt with at St Asaph St Asaph (Welsh: Llanelwy) is a town in North Wales on the River Elwy. It has a population of 3,491 (Census 2001).

The town of St Asaph is surrounded by countryside and views of the Vale of Clwyd.

Let's hope there is no knock-on effect on the vital 999 service. There mustn't be.
