DAILY POST COMMENT: Back Bryn to make sure Faenol thrives.

SINCE its inspired inception four years ago, Bryn Terfel's Faenol Festival has represented everything that Wales is famous for -its breathtaking scenery, its culture and language, its intimacy and its music-making.

It has put North Wales on the international map in a way tourism bosses could only dream of -without having to lift a finger or invest a penny. It is precisely the sort of prestigious event we had been needing for so long, attracting people from across the UK and all points abroad.

More than that it has become a part of our fabric,an informal social and musical gathering to which people eagerly look forward from one year to the next. It was in danger of being taken for granted Adj. 1. taken for granted - evident without proof or argument; "an axiomatic truth"; "we hold these truths to be self-evident"
axiomatic, self-evident

obvious - easily perceived by the senses or grasped by the mind; "obvious errors"

Now it seems this superb showcase is in danger of extinction because of a mixture of miscalculation mis·cal·cu·late

It will be a very sad day indeed if it does cease, and will leave a gap in our experience which will be impossible to fill, for the driving force and main attraction is something that money cannot replace -a local hero; an international singing sensation who lives in the heart of this community and is devoted and committed to it in equal measure.

There are many reasons why the Faenol Festival -which has grown in stature and popularity for every one of its four years to date -is now facing closure, and this is not the time or place to apportion ap·por·tion

 blame.

Now is,however, the time to try to make sure that it does not die. The acid test will be the number of people who attend over the three days of the August Bank Holiday weekend.

If,for whatever reason, numbers are disappointing, then we must wave goodbye to it forever -and we will deserve to lose it.

These events are anything but cheap to organise and it may well come as a shock to readers to learn than Bryn has had to personally bankroll bank·roll
n.
1. A roll of paper money.

2. Informal One's ready cash.

it in the past to keep it a float. Yet for the audience it has been cheap, and remains so.

Now there is a rival event on the horizon.

Can the area support two such events so close in time to each other? We are not suggesting that anyone boycott the Summer Pops which promise to be fun.

But we are saying that Bryn's festival needs your support now like it has never needed it in the past.

Let's show Bryn how much we love his festival and offer him the support he deserves.

Let's make this year a sell- out. We owe it to him and to ourselves.
