DAILY NEWS WINS 11 AWARDS FROM L.A. PRESS CLUB.


The Daily News received 11 awards Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  from the Greater Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Press Club during the group's 41st annual banquet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

At the press club's Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Journalism Awards banquet, the Daily News of Los Angeles won awards for its 1998 work in spot news coverage, headline writing, general news writing, general news photography, layout, sports action photography, business news reporting, entertainment reviews, photo essay, feature reporting and editorial/opinion insert pages. The awards were given in the category of newspapers over 100,000 in circulation. Here's a rundown of the winners:

The Daily News staff took first place in the spot news category for coverage of a tragic rescue helicopter crash in Griffith Park Griffith Park is a large public park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is situated in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park covers 4,210 acres (17 km²) of land, making it one of the largest urban parks in North America. .

Michael James Owen[2] (born December 14, 1979, in Chester, Cheshire)[3] is an English football player currently with Newcastle United.
 Baker won top honors in general news writing and general news photography for coverage of the death of a law enforcement officer. Baker also won a first-place award in the sports action photography category for a picture taken at the Super Bowl.

Daily News designers won first prize in the page layout category for their work on the day of President Clinton's impeachment impeachment, formal accusation issued by a legislature against a public official charged with crime or other serious misconduct. In a looser sense the term is sometimes applied also to the trial by the legislature that may follow. .

In the business writing category, reporter Deborah Adamson won first place for her analysis of the predictions of finance magazines.

The Daily News sports copy desk was awarded first place honors for the headline ``Re-Mark-Able'' over the story about slugger Mark McGwire breaking Major League Baseball's home run record.

The following Daily News staffers won certificates of excellence for their work: Bob Strauss, for entertainment reviews; Reed Johnson, for his body of work in features reporting; David R. Crane, for his photo essay on Lake Los Angeles; and the editorial staff, for its opinion pages.
