DAILY NEWS TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF.

Byline: Daily News Staff

Ryan Ennis didn't wait long to make an impact in 1999.

The Monroe High senior pitcher tossed a no-hitter in his first start of the season Tuesday to lead the Vikings to a 10-0 win over Franklin in a Daily News Tournament game halted after 4-1/2 innings due to the 10-run mercy rule A mercy rule, also well known by the slightly less polite term slaughter rule (or, less commonly, knockout rule and skunk rule), brings a sports event to an early end when one team has a very large and presumably insurmountable lead over the other team. .

It was the first career no-hitter for Ennis (1-0), whose brother John was an All-Area pitcher for Monroe last season.
