THE GAME: Five people are managing fictitious portfolios that stood at $100,000 on April 1. Contestants can buy and sell daily, but each transaction costs Transaction Costs

Costs incurred when buying or selling securities. These include brokers' commissions and spreads (the difference between the price the dealer paid for a security and the price they can sell it).
 $50. The portfolios are limited to stocks traded on the nation's major exchanges.
