DAILY NEWS PEOPLE : WINK GREGWARE.

Byline: - Minerva A. Hernandez

When Wink Gregware decided to retire from the furniture-making trade, he knew he didn't want to just sit around and do nothing. Since then, he's turned his effort and expertise toward North Hollywood-based Wheels for Humanity, an organization dedicated to renovating wheelchairs for the less privileged in Third World countries. Wheels for Humanity does not just restore chairs; it's dedicated to restoring lives, too.

VOLUNTEERISM: ``Volunteering for this organization makes a person think twice about priorities. Wheelchairs, old and new, are donated by private individuals as well as different organizations. Everything used to repair the chairs, from screws to tires to cleaning supplies, as well as the transportation necessary to get them to their final destinations, is all donated by people and organizations who take an interest. There are a lot of people involved in the renovation of these wheelchairs, I'm only a minute part of this organization - I'm almost shy about being mentioned here.''

HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED?: ``My wife ``Larry'' had read a Daily News article by Dennis McCarthy Dennis McCarthy may refer to:
  • Dennis McCarthy (composer), (born 1945), an American composer
