The program needed women who were once young mothers ... so I thought it was a perfect way to lend my support to young people in need. WHY DO YOU VOLUNTEER?: I think it's nice to be able to reach out to other people and maybe make a difference (in their lives). And it's really inspiring to see other people volunteering their time. I think it has made me a better person. BIGGEST DILEMMA: The biggest challenge I have with the volunteer work that I do is getting to know the teen-agers in my group, to build trust, and to set the weekly topics that we discuss. My partner and co-facilitator, Marissa Medellin, and I try to make it interesting for the girls. We cover a lot of different topics like practical ideas for taking care of young children, nutrition and domestic violence issues. GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: My greatest accomplishment with the program is helping teen-age mothers feel better about themselves. Most of the girls in the first group (I worked with) have finished high school and some are going on to college now. The feedback I've received makes me feel good. GOALS FOR THE FUTURE: To continue volunteering for this program. WHO RELIES ON YOU THE MOST AND WHO YOU RELY ON: My family and friends rely on me. I rely on my husband.
