DAILY NEWS PEOPLE : MYRA STOUGH.


Playing piano at First United Methodist Church First United Methodist Church is a common name for the first United Methodist church established in a particular locality. Many First United Methodist Churches exist around the world.  in Reseda every Tuesday for the past six years, Stough leads a group called the Golden Agers. She plays tunes from the '30s, '40s and '50s as the members sing along. She also plays for monthly sing-alongs at the Ambassador Gardens retirement home in Reseda.

Stough also calls on many shut-ins, an activity she has performed for about 12 years. ``I mostly listen if they have something on their mind,'' Stough said. ``I think I am a pretty good sounding board.''

AGE: 79.

RESIDENCE: Van Nuys.

BORN AND RAISED IN: Shiremanstown, Pa. Came to Van Nuys in 1961.

OCCUPATION: Retired from work as a school secretary.

CHILDREN: Three children - Sandra, William and James.

BIGGEST DILEMMA: ``I really don't have one, and I am so thankful to say that.''

MOST DIFFICULT DAILY TASK: ``I walk with a neighbor. Some days I say, `I don't want to go today,' but I get up and get going anyway.''

FAVORITE DAILY TASK: ``I enjoy my quiet meditation time in the morning, sitting on the patio watching the birds and squirrels, reading my Bible.''

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: ``The loss of our son Steven, who took his own life when he was 23 years old. That was something that really set me back.''

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: ``Being a good example and role model to my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.''

GOALS FOR THE FUTURE: ``To be able to keep on with this wonderful routine and to encourage other people to volunteer. Everybody can do something. All the joy I get with little effort, I get back a hundredfold.''

WHO RELIES ON YOU THE MOST, AND WHO YOU RELY ON: ``I have a friend who is a widower widower n. a man whose wife died while he was married to her and has not remarried.

FAVORITE VALLEY HANGOUTS: ``First United Methodist Church. I belong to a craft group and fellowship group. I am there a lot.''

FAVORITE FOODS: ``I like everything.''

FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: ``Going to the movies and playing cards playing cards, parts of a set or deck, used in playing various games of chance or skill. The origin of playing cards is unknown, and almost as many theories exist as there are historians of the subject. .''

HOBBIES: ``Gardening, reading, knitting and exchanging recipes.''
