WHY DO YOU VOLUNTEER?: ``It gives me a sense of satisfaction knowing that I can do something for others. They certainly did something for me at the time that I needed it the most.''

MOST DIFFICULT DAILY TASK: ``I have a bad back, so it's difficult for me to walk, but I do manage to get around.''

FAVORITE DAILY TASK: ``My three days that I'm doing my volunteer work at the hospital.''

GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: ``Being happily married for 63 years to my childhood sweetheart. Seeing history in the making - from President Woodrow Wilson to President Clinton. Surviving wars from World War I to the ones that have followed. By the way, I do my own housecleaning house·clean·ing

I hope that sharing my life's experiences would be of some help to them at some point. I've seen so much!''

WHO RELIES ON YOU THE MOST AND WHO YOU RELY ON: ``I rely on my grandchildren, and I think Jean Kidd (one of the volunteers) relies on me.''

ROLE MODELS: ``My dad. He was a fine, honest man. I've always admired his integrity and the way he handled himself. I've tried to follow his footsteps.''

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?: ``Living a happy life with your family and being surrounded by good friends. I've been blessed with so many good friends who have remained close to my heart as time has gone by. We still write letters and send cards. Neither distance nor time has kept us apart.''

VALLEY HANGOUTS: ``I enjoy going to the golf course in Van Nuys and dining at Billingsley's.''

FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: ``Reading is one of my favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band.  activities; I try to keep myself up to date.''

WHAT WOULD BE A PERFECT DAY FOR YOU?: ``Waking up and being able to get up. That in itself makes it a perfect day all right!''
