Inside, outside, over the plate. It really didn't matter where the Poly High of Sun Valley pitching staff threw the ball Monday, Casey Haerther was going to make contact.

``I was determined to have a good day,'' Haerther said. ``There's a number of different variables involved in hitting three homers. I didn't go into the game thinking I could do it. It just happened.''

Haerther hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, a solo shot to right field in the third, and another two-run blast in the sixth. He added an RBI single that scored Trevor Arroyo in the fourth.

``After my first two at-bats, I started thinking that everything was going to go my way,'' Haerther said. ``It wasn't a one-in-a-million day, but it was close to perfect.''

Teammate Tyler Weed also hit a home run for Chaminade (2-0).

 started the opening rally with a leadoff double and, after Eric Guillen was hit by a pitch, Brown scored on a Zach Ginther single. Matt Lorenz was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, and David Fonseca David Fonseca was born in Leiria, Portugal, in 1973. He studied Cinema at Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa between 1992 and 1994, where he obtained a degree. David first began his professional life as a photographer, working for various fashion catalogues.  walked, scoring Guillen. Cole Kahle hit a grounder to score Ginther, and Fonseca and Lorenz came around to score on a two-base error.

The five-run lead was more than enough support for Ginther, who gave up one run on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts in four innings to pick up his first victory of the season.

Lorenz finished 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Brown was 3 for 5.

--Vasquez 10, Verdugo Hills 2: Curtis Leavitt tossed five innings of two- hit, two-run ball and went 2 for 4 with four RBI for host Vasquez of Acton (2-0).

Vasquez led 4-2 entering the fifth inning, before Leavitt sparked a six- run inning with a two-run double.

China McCarney went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three runs, Jeff Granillo went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Joe Perez and J.C. Urso each added two RBI for Vasquez.

--L.A. Baptist 21, North Hollywood 4: Colby Hyatt struck out five in four innings and received plenty of run support to earn the victory in the mercy rule-shortened season opener for both teams.

Hyatt gave up two hits and walked one. L.A. Baptist of North Hills scored 11 runs in the second inning and finished with 19 hits.

Brad Rice was 4 for 5 with three runs and three RBI. Mike Aragon added four hits, three runs and two RBI. Ryan McKinzie was 2 for 3 with four RBI and four runs, and Graham Miller was 3 for 6 with three runs and three RBI.

--Granada Hills 3, Grant 1: Daniel Nimoy was 3 for 4 with three singles, scored a run and drove another in as visiting Granada Hills (4-0) defeated Grant of Van Nuys (0-1).
