``(Jacobs) had a great performance on the mound,'' Calabasas coach Rick Nathanson said. ``He has been with me since he was a freshman. He pitched well, and the defense helped him.''

St. Francis catcher Matt McColgan broke the no-hitter when he opened the seventh with a single up the middle. Jacobs retired the next two batters but loaded the bases by allowing hits by Harold Kim and Chris Church.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-hander, however, got Drew Nance to ground out to second for the final out.

The three-hit performance by Jacobs erases an ugly season opener a day earlier when the Coyotes were the victim of a Kennedy of Granada Hills no-hitter.

``We felt pretty bad that we got no-hit,'' Jacobs said. ``We just tried to forget about it and work hard. I didn't even know I had a no-hitter going. I just focused on getting my team a win.''

The Coyotes took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Justin Segal, who reached base on a bunt single, scored on a Jacobs single. Calabasas stretched that lead in the same inning with runs by Michael Benford and Jacobs. Drew Saberhagen had a double to right-center field that brought in Jacobs as Calabasas led 3-0.

Calabasas scored its fourth run in the fourth inning when Aaron Lowenstein scored on an error. On the play, pitcher Alex Gonzalez Alex González may refer to:

Benford did not have a hit but had two walks a stolen base. Lowenstein and Segal each went 1 for 3 with a run and a stolen base.
