The awards were presented Saturday night at a banquet at the Beverly Hills Hotel The Beverly Hills Hotel is a hotel in Beverly Hills, CA, at 9641 Sunset Boulevard. It was opened on May 12, 1912 and started by Margaret J. Anderson and her son, Stanley S. Anderson, who had been managing the Hollywood Hotel. . The Daily News also received an award of excellence for overall excellence among Los Angeles County newspapers with more than 100,000 daily circulation.

Awards of excellence also were presented to fashion writer Barbara De Witt De Witt, uninc. town (1990 pop. 8,244), Onondaga co., central N.Y., a residential suburb of Syracuse.  for her column ``Partylines.''

Columnist Dennis McCarthy won an award of excellence for his four times a week news column.
