The appointment was made by Ike Massey, publisher of the Daily News and president and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group The Los Angeles Newspaper Group is an umbrella group of local daily newspapers published in the greater Los Angeles area by MediaNews Group. The news coverage of the newspapers are mainly local stories. , who said, ``Bob Gray has great experience in sales, marketing and circulation in addition to a keen grasp of newspaper operations.'' Gray, 48, will handle day-to-day business functions of the Daily News, including advertising, marketing, circulation, production and finance. The news and editorial departments of the Daily News will continue to report to Massey. Massey said Gray's appointment will allow him to continue to oversee the Daily News as publisher as well as to work on the growing Los Angeles Newspaper Group operations. ``I'm pleased to be able to have someone the caliber of Bob Gray available for promotion within our group,'' Massey said. ``This will give me more time and freedom to work more with our ever-expanding cluster of newspapers in Southern California.''
