DAILY NEWS CEO HONORED FOR AIDING AREA'S DISABLED.Byline: Barbara De Witt Staff Writer GRANADA HILLS - Ike Massey, publisher and chief executive officer of the Daily News, received the top honor for community service at the 30th anniversary gala of Tierra del Sol Foundation on Friday night. Massey received the Don Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872. A principal tourist center for a mountain and lake region, it also has lumbering, food-processing, and diverse manufacturing. Leadership Award, named for the president and general manager of Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills, one of the first Valley businessmen to hire people with disabilities. ``The Daily News is proud to be a partner with Tierra del Sol. It is a wonderful organization with wonderful, caring people doing wonderful things,'' Massey said. ``I'm also proud to be a recipient of the Don Redding award. Don is a man I admire, respect and very much like. ... It's quite an honor.'' During presentation ceremonies at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills, Tierra del Sol Foundation Executive Director Steve Miller credited Massey and the Daily News for being a major sponsor of the organization's Lee Hamer Golf Classic and helping raise more than $250,000 for Tierra del Sol's Burn the Mortgage campaign. ``Ike went beyond what a typical businessman would do,'' Miller said. ``He recognized that people with disabilities have capabilities. For example, in the newspaper's circulation department, he combined several simple repetitive tasks and created part-time jobs for the disabled. ``He didn't see it as a hassle or something to comply with, but an opportunity to show what the business community can do for the larger community.'' Also honored was Joni Berry, president of the Joseph K. and Inez Eichenbaum Foundation in Beverly Hills, which provides specialized health care for the elderly and social services support for family members. Berry is a longtime member of the organization Share Happily and Reap Endlessly, whose members were saluted for their longtime support of Tierra del Sol programs. In addition to the Ladies of SHARE, the Tierra del Sol Service Group was also recognized for its dedication to the organization's mission to help people learn to become self-sufficient and live as respected citizens. Each honoree received an original piece of art by artists from Tierra del Sol's training program. The awards gala was attended by 350 guests, including Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Woodland Hills; state Sen.
