DAILY NEWS ALL-STAR SOFTBALL NOTEBOOK: BASHING JUST LIKE HER IDOL.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Staff Writer

Seven years after watching her idol win the Daily News home run contest, Glendale High's Audrey Andrade did so herself prior to the West's 4-0 victory Tuesday in the 19th annual Daily News All-Star Softball Game at Cal State Northridge.

``I remember watching Kelly Cook (from Glendale) win it right here on the same field. I was in fifth grade at the time,'' Andrade said. ``Kelly was my role model.''

--There's no place like home: San Fernando's Selena Salazar, one of the City Section's all-time greatest pitchers and sluggers, enjoyed playing at Northridge - a good omen considering she has signed with the Matadors.

She pitched three hitless innings Tuesday, striking out six.

--Ivy League connection: Three future Ivy Leaguers participated for the West team: Harvard-bound Suzanne Cominski of Thousand Oaks and Haley Bock of Viewpoint of Calabasas, and Westlake's Ava Amini, who's heading to Brown.

--Caitlyn Bailey of Newbury Park left early after foul-tipping a ball against her forehead in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bailey ended up with a knot on her head but didn't seek medical attention, according to one of the West coaches.

--Smart cookie: Among those in attendance was Francesca Enea of City Section champion El Camino Real of Woodland Hills. Ena won a Daily News T-shirt by correctly answering the between-inning trivia question: ``Name three of the four players who have played in the Daily News All-Star Game who went on to play in this year's Women's College World Series?''

The correct answer: Shannon Doepking (Highland High of Palmdale/Tennessee), Kortney Bell (Valencia High/Tennessee), Ashley Herrera (Valencia High/UCLA) and Jaisa Creps (Valencia High/UCLA).

--Back at CSUN: The event returned to Cal State Northridge for the first time since 1999. The game had been played at the Glendale Sports Complex the past five years.

--MVP: Stacy Milne of Canoga Park is only the second City Section player since 1988 to win the Most Valuable Player award. The other was Patty Del Real of Kennedy of Granada Hills in 1999.

--East still leads: Depsite its loss, the East leads the series 12-7. The West's shutout was only its second in series history, the other in an 8-0 victory in 1991.
