D2K enhances tapestry's Web delivery services by selecting Infospace's 3-D SpaceCharts technology; Custom data delivery module enables end users to view warehouse information in graphical format.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 1997--D2K, Incorporated announced today that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Infospace, Inc. (San Mateo, Calif.).

D2K will incorporate Infospace's SpaceCharts technology into their end-to-end knowledge distribution solution, Tapestry. This first enhancement to Tapestry's Web Delivery Services will be called "JavaCharts." Specifically, the Infospace JavaServer , Infospace SpaceCharts and the SpaceTable components are to be integrated into the Tapestry product.

With the addition of JavaCharts to the Delivery Services module, we are able to provide our end users with the ability to receive the information they need as well as represent it in the format which is of greatest benefit to them."

And because it is a Java thin client, the tool does not have to be installed on each user's desktop. Instead, it is downloaded from the web server only when needed. Working with Tapestry's publish/subscribe model, the Infospace JavaServer is invoked from the Tapestry Server. When an end user schedules information delivery to his or her desktop, they will select the JavaCharts format using the "push" paradigm inherent in Tapestry.

When the specified delivery time occurs, JavaServer is invoked, and dynamically creates graphical charts. The SpaceCharts technology will enable the information being delivered from the data warehouse to be represented in either 2-D or 3-D graphical output (bar charts, line charts, pie charts, or area charts) for analysis.

In addition, the JavaCharts format will include a pivot table so end users can rotate and sort the information in a graphical representation. The end user can then bring up InfoSpace's SpaceTable, which displays the information in numerical form.

The inclusion of the SpaceCharts technology within Tapestry is the first in a series of Delivery Services modules D2K will build into its architecture to expand the capabilities of its publish/subscribe paradigm.

Additional modules will be made available to end users to allow them to give them the power to customize the delivery of their corporate information. Corporations now have the option to select a single tool for extraction, transformation and loading of the data warehouse, building a data mart or multi-tiered data warehouse, and delivering critical information on a scheduled basis to end users via a customized "push" methodology.

The Tapestry Product

Tapestry is a component based package, which ties together an industrial strength client-server architecture; a publish-and-subscribe model; an object-relational catalog; application data models; and a threaded forum for workflow communications and cross-organizational collaboration. Tapestry, was announced in February. The product which includes, the InfoSpace SpaceCharts technology, will begin shipping mid-April.
