D2K Introduces Tapestry knowledge distribution software; Now, IT and Business Managers Can Team Up to Deliver Information to Knowledge Workers.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1997--D2K Inc. announced today Tapestry software, its first product offering enabling end-to-end knowledge distribution.

The product constitutes an information framework designed to bridge the gap between operational and information systems created by traditional data warehouse solutions.

Edward Young, president and CEO of D2K, explained: "Until now, there has been a void between operational and information systems. Current data warehousing methodologies are a technical solution which often leave end users, the ones requesting the data, out of the information loop. Tapestry incorporates an industrial-strength client-server architecture with the following features: -0-

-- Publish-and-subscribe model supports existing corporate information strategy and allows users to have scheduled subscriptions delivered to their desktop in Microsoft Excel(R), HTML, or delimited text format.

-- Three-tiered topography provides higher performance, efficiency, and scaleability. The first tier is made up of thin clients or Web browsers, the second is the Tapestry Server and the third is the information databases, which can be located anywhere on NT or UNIX servers.

-- Object-relational catalog drives the end-to-end solution by managing complex relationships and storing them as meta data objects. This feature includes a search engine and version control and provides for standard relational access for integration with third party products.

-- Application templates for PeopleSoft Human Resources(R) and PeopleSoft Financials(R) allow rapid development and customization. Forum for workflow communication and cross-organizational collaboration. Tapestry provides intuitive interfaces and tools including a messaging service and information distribution over the Internet, Intranet or LAN/WAN.

Availability:

First release supports extraction from IMS, VSAM, DB/2 or sequential files on MVS and Oracle, Sybase, Informix or sequential files on UNIX. Target platforms include UNIX or NT and target databases Oracle, Sybase, Informix and Microsoft SQL Server.

The Tapestry base product, which includes one server, is priced at $75,000 for the UNIX version, $50,000 for the NT version. Both versions will begin shipping by the end of Q1 1997.
